On November 9, at approximately 13:00 Central, there will be a NATION WIDE test of the Emergency Alert System using the actual LIVE CODE for a National Emergency Activation Notification.
---
From the FCC Handbook:
The following elements of the Nationwide EAS Test are necessary to ensure a thorough testing of the national EAS distribution system:
The Nationwide EAS Test will use the Emergency Action Notification (EAN) Event code, the Event code that would be used in an actual national emergency.
The test will last approximately three minutes, slightly longer than a monthly test, to ensure that the equipment will not “lock up” after two minutes (the maximum length for all other EAS alerts).
The audio portion of the test will state: “This is a Test.” However, for video service providers (a category that includes broadcast, cable, satellite, and wireline video providers), the EAN code will automatically generate a text crawl that will say “A Primary Entry Point station has issued an Emergency Action Notification“
The text crawl on TV, and automated cellular phone text messages WILL NOT indicate that the event is a test.---
Please pass this information along to everyone you know in the United States, so we don't have another "War of the Worlds" type panic.
