Although we have our own elmering crew, I thought I would pass this along in case anyone is interested.  I have modified the email address to prevent bots from spammng them:

The following is extracted with permission from an email Dar Piatt,
W9HZC, sent to Douglas County ARES members and supporters:

The one thing I have always said was that this HAM Radio thing was a
‘hobby’ and too many people forget that. Amateur Radio is not,
should not be, and will not be only an Emergency radio service.

I have been asked to take on a new job that would allow me to become an
ambassador (of sorts) for the whole state; it was a little difficult to
say no.

I will travel around the state (maybe more) and build a group of
individuals with technical skills who can mentor others and pass on
those technical skills. (The Elmer Squad)

We will hold seminars in as many locations across the state as we can
and ‘Teach’ radio skills and electronics and antennas and building
and all the rest.

Should be easy for an old teacher dude like me.

If you are interested in joining the Elmer Squad, please e-mail me
either at dpiatt at fnni.com or at W9HZC at cox.net and I'll start my list.

Darwin (Dar) Piatt, W9HZC

Nicely said, Dar.  Getting new hams engaged in ham radio is extremely
important to the future of our hobby.  Too many people get licenses and
then drop out when they don't get the support -- the hand-holding --
they need to become active hams.

For those of you who have expressed interest in taking part in the
Squad, please email Dar or me.  This is an important new initiative and
will, I think, be fun for all involved.

73, Art KØAIZ
