Welcome back for our next installment on building the just released Sienna transceiver kit by DZKIT.  This time we will fix the transistor on the DCD board and install the Tuner Kit.

If you read Part 2 of this series you may recall that I put power transistor Q1 on the wrong side of the DCD board.  Brian from DZkit sent me a new one along with the Tuner Kit.  So the first thing I did was start to remove the incorrectly installed one and install the new one.

In this picture you can see the incorrectly installed Q1 power transistor.  It should be mounted on the back side of the board.  I tried to heat it up and use a solder sucker to remove it, but it just wouldn't budge.  The leads on it were also to cut too short anyway.

To remove Q1 I clipped the leads on it and then used the solder sucker to remove the solder from the leads.  This worked well except for the center lead.  It was stubborn. I finally determined that the solder had went through the hole and I wasn't getting both sides hot enough.  So I put the iron on one side and heated the area up and put the solder sucker on the other side and hit it a couple of times that way.  It got enough solder out to remove the lead.  You can see the board with the leads removed in this picture.

Here you can see the new and old transistors side by side.  In the following picture you can see the new transistor with it's leads bent before installation.

Finally in this picture you can see the transistor Q1 installed correctly.

Now to install the Tunner kit.  It is pretty straight forward, the most challenging part was winding the toroids.  You can see the first one I wound in this picture.

Then you install the capacitors and relays.  Here is the picture of the DCD board after the Tuner kit has been installed.  It adds some significant weight to the board!

So that's it for now.  Next we will assemble the Transmitter and PA boards.
